Is fainting or loss of consciousness something that can be caused by a migraine?
I have been suffering from migraines for some time now. Some are bad. Some are awful. Some are 'please almighty power of the cosmos let me die now'. Several days ago I was trying to rest off a migraine headache. I had not taken any medicine for it since most pain killers upset my stomach, and it was already mighty upset. I guess I got up to go the bathroom and fainted on the way. My sister found me face down in the hallway, and she said I was non-responsive for about 5-7 minutes after she found me. At first I refused to go to the ER because the ER is bright and noisy, but eventually I let someone talk me into going. However, they didn't find anything wrong. They checked my blood sugar and stuff like that, determined nothing life threatening was happening, filled me up on anti-emetics and pain killers, and sent me home. They were really nice about it, though.
But was the migraine the cause? I've never been prone to fainting before. I almost fainted once or twice in my life, but managed to stay conscious, and both times were while blood was being drawn. Maybe the pain was unbearable and I collapsed. Maybe the combination of barely eating (but I only missed one or two meals, I've gone longer with less) and pain? Or should I be worried that there is still something else wrong, and that it might happen again? I try not to bother my GP too often, and he already knows about my migraines... but if it's something that isn't related to migraine and was just a coincidence, then I should go see him.
