Persistent Headache for months

Hi...

I 've been having persistent headaches for about a two-three months. The headaches vary in degree of pain and generally occur a couple of minutes after I wake up and lasts until I go to bed. The headaches always start around the right orbital area and will spread to my forehead, top of the head and at times the back of my head. The headache will worsen with a strong fragrance or noise. The pain will worsen to what I would consider a full migraine, which I treat with vicodin, but generally I just fill pressure and bearable pain the the aforementioned areas. I saw a opthoneurologist and had an MRI of the orbital region but he didnt find anything abnormal. I haven't identified anything that caused these headaches.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

Hi,
How are you? Cluster headaches are pain felt in the vicinity of the eye. The pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. These attacks occur every day for weeks to months, then disappear. Alcoholic beverages and excessive smoking may be triggers to this. Also, this type primary headache may be present in ombination with other types like migraine or luster headaches. Check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Prescription medications like  ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent may help. Try also to avoid the triggers that you mentioned. Take care and do keep us posted.

It was actually a long process to get referred to a neurologist, unfortunately. I first told my general care doctor of the headaches and they perscribed vicodin, and a NASID to see if I got relief and then also to try to figure out what triggered them. So serveral months later (at least 3)... I continued to tell her of the headaches and she then referred me to an opthamologist who did not see anything wrong with my eyes or eye sight. He referred me to a neuroopthamologist who conducted an MRI, without the dye to show signicant contrast. So I am still in the process, I am not sure what the next steps are. I think for your situation just staying persistent with the doctor and you can always ask for a referral to see a neurologist. You expressed some concerns about going but I think it is important to get a specialist opinion on the headaches and they will be able to rule out any serious neruological issues.

Good Luck... I wish you the best.

btw... yes they do drive me mad. lol!
