Persistent Migraine Aura

Persistent Migraine Aura

I've been having some strange visual disturbances for about a year now and have gone to my ophthalmologist several times.  After running numerous tests, she has declared that there is nothing wrong with my eyes and that my problems may be neurological.  So, I have a referral to go to a neurologist and I'm waiting to get an appointment.  In the meantime, I've been researching my symptoms and I firmly believe that I am suffering from Persistent Migraine Aura.

Some of my symptoms include: negative afterimages, positive afterimages (less frequent than the negative), trails, hypersensitivity to light, dark spots that flash when I blink, flickering in my peripheral vision, glowing spots that appear and then disappear, increased pressure-induced phosphenes, and difficulty reading because letters appear to vibrate (with some fonts and background colors, but not all).

Is there anything that I can do to treat this while I'm waiting to see a doctor?  It's really driving me crazy.  I would just love for everything to go back to "normal".

Hi,
How are you? It is good that the test results were normal. A referral to a neurologist will indeed be very helpful in determining the underlying cause. With migraine headaches, it is important that the triggers are identified so that they can be avoided. A journal or the migraine tracker here in the forum may help- wherein the duration, character, symptoms in each attack can be written down. This will help you avoid such triggers and will also help the neurologist on your appointment. Follow your ophthalmologist's recommendations also and  avoid taking too much medications that could lead to rebound symptoms. Take care and do keep us posted.
