Please help! I dont know whats wrong..

by brunette0508, Aug 18, 2009 03:07PM
I have had headaches most of my tean years. I mean, who hasnt. However the last 4 months I have been suffering from the worst pain i have ever felt thus far in my life. Im 22 years old and I am having migraine headaches every other day to everyday. They hut so bad that they prevent me from performing my activities of daily living. The really bad ones are mostly on the right side of my head. LIke from top to bottom of that side. I have earaches with the headaches and sometimes i can feel a dripping kind of sensation in my right ear. Feels like it is inside of my head.

I have been to my family doctor three times now and have been prescribed 3 different meds. 1. inderol, 2. cardizem and 3. Zomig (in which i had a terrible reaction to).  My appointments have been 3 weeks apart but i finally couldnt take it.. i called my doc office and got an appointment sooner with a different doctor because my doctor was on holidays. This doc I saw said that she thinks im not eating as many meals a day as i should be.. even though i am. Im not skinny by any means and i eat breakfast lunch and dinner and a snack after dinner.  She ordered blod tests and they came out fine.

My doctor thinks im just over reacting about the pain but really... its excruiating. I was hoping for someone with the same or similar problem or a doctor or neurologist on here could help me in telling me what might be the problem and or what I should do?

I dont eat most of the trigger foods (ie: chocolate, cured meats, alcohol) i might have a cooler once a month and sometimes nothing. I am desperate. Please help me :(

I agree.  Today I foudn out from my blood tests that I havea severe B12 deficiency that may or may not be linked to my headaches i dont know. But the nurse did tell me its linked to anemia (sp?) and can shut my body down if too low. :S

On the 27th im asking for a neurologist appointment. Just thought maybe if anyone had an ideas of why I was experiencing this then maybe I could mention certain things to specialists? or figure out what is a symptom and what isnt of certain disorders or diseases.

I really appreciate your comment :) thanks.

1) Start a daily headache log, including pain levels and durations of each attack. You should also include ANY other odd feelings or symptoms you encounter: tearing or burning in the eye, congestion or runny nose, dizzyness, etc.  Google "migraine aura" and "seizure aura" and you'll find a list of things that you may not realize are related to the headaches.  Logging the type of pain you experience (throbbing, burning, piercing), the locations (eye, ear, brow, neck), and the duration are extremely helpful.

2) Find a neurologist who is a headache specialist, and hopefully you'll find a good one.  Neurologists in general aren't knowledgeable in all types of headaches, so the headache specialty is important.

You mentioned having the headaches since your teen years, which sounds like they may be menstrually-linked.  This is common for migraines and other headache types, so noting your monthly cycle in your headache log can help a headache specialist in the proper diagnosis.

You said your headaches were the "worse pain" you have ever experienced.  If they are constant (not throbbing), burning, and piercing in nature, then look up cluster headaches and see if they fit.
