Sharp pain in back of head

Sharp pain in back of head

I've had headaches before, usually dull aches behind my eyes - but this is something much different. For the past 2 days I have experienced 4 brief sharp stabbing pains in the back of my head, about 2 inches up from the hairline and 2 inches back from the front of the ear, lasting from 10 to 30 seconds or so. After I experience one there is a really dull pain that resonates for a while. Any ideas as to what this could be?

Hi,

How are you?
The first possibility that comes to mind is sinusitis since you have a history of pain behind the eyes.
Other causes can be ice pick headaches, neuralgias and headaches due to anxiety and sleep deprivation.
TMJ can also cause sharp stabbing pain near the ear. Do you clench your teeth?
I would suggest you take rest and relax and take OTC pain killers. If your symptoms still persist please get a complete clinical evaluation done.
Take care!
