Skin rash on 5 year old

my daughter has a horrible skin rash on the top of her foot, and right on the bone of her elbow - it is super itchy and unfortunately she scratches it to the point of bleeding.  We have tried every manner of cortizone's, antibiotics, bleach baths, etc all recommended by her pediatrician and a dermatologist but nothing is curing it.  One Dr says it eczema one says its impetigo but so far no treatment works.  It does not look like classic eczema as her skin is just not dry?

any thoughts but I am at wits end she is miserable and I hate seeing her like this!

Thanks for the updates. Aside from diet modification, identifying and avoiding the main triggers (such as overheating and skin irritants), avoiding skin  dryness and reducing the itching by using wet dressings and cool compresses may help. Controlling the itch may indeed be difficult, Here are some tips that may help apart from antihistamine medications: applying soft, cool wet towel to the itchy area for immediate relief and applying moisturizer after, distracting your child when she is scratching, and applying wet dressing. Although there is no definite treatment, many children outgrow this condition, or it at least gets better as they get older. Take care and best regards.

Hi there - she has been on a variety of Rx coritzone's as well as antibiotics and nothing seems to work.  We have seen a Derm and they were not very helpful basically told her to stop scratching which is impossible.  I have done some research on eczema and we are trying an elimination diet with Citrus and strawberries as they are none to irritate eczema and she eats both in abundance.  If that fails we are going to try Gluten/wheat elimination next.  We have also started her on Probiotics which are supposed to cut down on the acid in her body helping the eczema.

Basically we are trying to help her from the inside out as the meds do not seem to do the trick and only mask or temporarily work.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.

How is your daughter? The rash could be attributed to a variety of issues such as irritation, allergic reaction, infection and skin conditions such as eczema. If the medications do not work, it is best that you inform her doctor for proper management. A change in medication or dosage may be indicated. With children, it is indeed difficult to avoid scratching but this can lead to secondary bacterial infection also. An over-the-counter antihistamine may also help provide relief. Hi,

I was wondering if it could be possible that she may be allergic to wheat, flour, etc.  My brother found out he was a yr ago, he woke up with a rash on his elbow and knee?, was misdiagnosed, and then a dermatologist tested him and found out he has that allergy, it has a name but it has slipped my mind.  Anyways, i wish you the best and hope your daughter gets better soon.
