Still getting them...

Hi there

In february i got another migraine first one in a year, it started with tingling down the right arm this time and then it ached a bit. And now since that i always get a heaviness/achiness in that arm, which makes me worry a bit and i just end up taking pain killers thinking im having a migraine. Im getting worried about these headaches and the amount of tablets im taking ibuprofen/paracetamol, I need advice?

Thanks
George

I think you should see your Dr about a preventative medication. Also try magnesium supplements, homeopathics thuga and ignatia armana. ice on head while drinking hot tea or sitting in a bath. Tiger balm on temples.

Glad to be of help. You can also try complementary and alternative medicine like biofeedback and other relaxation techniques for your headache which do not utilize any drugs or medications. If the heaviness in your arm persists, I recommend that you check with your doctor for proper evaluation also. Take care and best regards.

Hi,
According to FDA information, side effects of ibuprofen include any of the following: rash, ringing in the ears, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea,  constipation and heartburn. NSAIDs also reduce the ability of blood to clot and therefore increase bleeding after an injury. Aside from this, NSAIDs may cause ulceration of the stomach or intestine that may bleed. They also reduce the flow of blood to the liver or kidneys and impair function of the kidneys especially in patients with problems with their  kidney or congestive heart failure.  Fluid retention/edema, blood clots, heart attacks, hypertension and heart failure have also been associated with the use of NSAIDs like ibuprofen.

Hi,
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The maximum dose is 1.2 g daily and it is not recommended to take for more than 10 days for the treatment of pain. Paracetamol is safer to take but may not be as effective. It is recommended that you talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Your medical history is an important consideration. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hi George,
How are you? You are right in saying that there is a limit to over-the-counter medicines such as ibuprofen. This may lead to rebound headaches and even liver problems. Migraine headaches usually present with one sided throbbing headaches.Numbness in the arm may indicate neurological causes.  It is best that you have this checked by your neurologist for proper management. Rest, ice packs, identification of triggers and biofeedback therapy  may help. Take care and do keep us posted.
