Strange Brief Head pain

I have an odd stabbing and sharp pain that lasts only 15 to 20 seconds that attacks me on the right side of my head just above me ear.  It has only been happening for about 2 weeks, but pops up at random times, I can not associate anything with it, it seems random.  It occurs maybe once or twice a day, and then not some days.  I usally press on it because it is so intense, which does not necessarily make it go away.  I have not been under any unusal stress lately, nor have I ever have this pain before.  I am 46 yrs old and it concerns me.

you should really get it checked out cuz u always want to make sure u stay healthy but also google headaches and it will tell u the different type of headaches and how long they last and the symptoms that stem from them because i have heard of a type of headache like the one your explaining but cant remember what type or where i read about it at wish i could be more help hope everything works out

How are you? The International Headache Society classify these headaches by as Ice pick headaches. These headaches presents with sharp stabbing, intensely painful headaches that typically last between 5 and 30 seconds. There are no other disorder or accompanying symptoms present. This type of headache is more likely to occur in people with migraine or cluster headaches. Ice pick headaches are considered a primary headache because there is no underlying cause and they are not considered dangerous or indicative of a serious disorder. One difficulty in treating ice-pick headaches is that they come and go so quickly. This can be treated with relaxation techniques and medical management.
