The Early morning Serpent

Im 55 male, been suffering from migraines since I was 6. In the 60's my parents took me to all kinds of doctors and they couldn't figure out the problem or give me meds to help.

My Serpent wakes me up between 1-4 am, usually for 2-3 weeks, then he leaves, sometimes not returning for a few months and as long as 12 months.

When he's here visiting Im woken up to a constant pain behind and above my right eye, as time goes on the pain continues at eye location but also hurts below bottom of scull on right side at neck area.

I've experimented with a gel blanket of ice , when applied to frontal lobe it helps a little, when applied at neck it burns plus increases the pain frequency in my head.

Laying down, sitting up, walking, running or swimming, or breathing exercises do nothing, it only pisses off the serpent even more.

Slapping, beating, knocking my head up against the wall, or jamming my finger in the corner of my eye, was senseless.

Eating cleaner, juicing, colon cleansing etc.. Was great for the rest of the body but didn't kill the serpent.

Maskerade parties: smoking weed, opium, snorting coke & crank popping yellow jackets, hearts, black beauties & Christmas trees didn't send the serpent away either.

Numbing Agents: Norcos, oxy's & Vico's really numbed my body and made the serpent high as a kite but was only temporary, after it wore off he was still there.

When imitrex introduced its self in early 90's that really put out the serpents bite, only thing was I had to have good insurance that would supply me with 14 day supply of injections.

Then Maxalt came along , yea no more needles, so far for the past 10 years this med is like a bouncer at a club, doesn't let the serpent in.

Conclusion: I've been using my t.e.n.s. unit on my neck and it seems to relax the muscles around the nerve

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community.

I apologize for the late response. In the middle of talking to you earlier my computer decided to have a tantrum!

I am very sorry to hear you had such a loooong ride down the struggle road. But, so glad to hear that you found the medication that works for you. As I always say, treating migraines is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time to find the right medication or even the right COMBO of medications. And what works for me might not work for you. It really is trial and error and unfortunately can take awhile.

Again...very happy to hear you're feeling better.
