Unusual Migraine

Since April last year 2007.  My husband has had an unusual head pain.  They are highly stereotyped attacks, without warning.  He develops a midline discomfort of the nose (a throbbing pain) and a tightness, and a pain above both eyes.  The pain becomes maximal after about five minutes or so and can last between two hours and a day. Occassionaly is eyes can seem a little blurry and sometimes drooping of the right eyelid.  He has seen a ENT Specialist, (had a CT Scan) which has come back clear, and seen a Eye Specialist too, (also come back clear).  He is now under a Neurologist and is being treated for an unusual type of migraine.  He has been taking for 8 weeks Topamax, which seem to be no help at all.

Can anyone shed any light on these symptoms.  Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for your reply.  My husband has another appointment with his doctor on Monday 4 February.  I really hope that this can be sorted out.  He really is feeling down now.

Hi,

Short bursts of severe head pains may be due to cluster headaches, paroxysmal hemicrania, hemicrania continua, or short lasting unilateral headaches with eye tearing. Migraines may also present severely in a variety of ways and will always be a part of any differential. You may discuss with your physician the advantages of nerve blocks or nerve stimulation for your husband's condition.
