Vertigo/Dizziness

If someone could help or give some advice I would appreciate it...I have been having dizzy spells for almost 2 weeks now and off/on headaches....the dizzy spells are so bad that I feell like I'm constantly moving or things in front of me are moving.  The dizzy spells are beginning to make me ill and I feel somewhat lathargic/dumb.  It seems as though I can't function normally or are doing so at a slow pace.  I went to the doctor on Monday and they arent' sure what is wrong but diagnosed me with Vertigo, I am waiting for my blood work to see if there is any cause, but in the mean time I am starting to worry.  People have suggested many things to me and google is the devil and tells me I could have anything from migranes (migraines)/cancer so I've decided its not a reliable source....

Any suggestions while waiting for my doctor's results....

Thanks!

Hi,

Were any maneuvers done to determine if this is benign positional vertigo?

I also suggest that you have a consult done with an ENT specialist for a complete ear examination. There are some tests done to determine any inner ear problem which may also cause vertigo. Meniere's disease and  labyrinthitis may cause vertigo.

Any associated hearing problem, ringing in the ears?

Are you taking any medications?

Vascular deficiencies and some migraines may also be associated with vertigo ( as an aura).I agree that you have a thorough assessment done.At this point, it is difficult to tell what may be causing the vertigo . But please keep from unnecessary worrying.Find time to relax and get adequate sleep.Drink plenty of water, minimize salt or msg in the diet , eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

I know that it is hard to focus now but it is important to stay positive since worrying will not help at this point.

Thank you for your advice, I am currently waiting for blood results b/f any further process by my doctor, hopefully they should be back today.  My doctor put me on medicine to help with the vertigo however it makes me excessively sleepy and I can't stay awake so I've been avoiding it.

I do not have any hearing/ringing in the ears.  Although I have had 2 sinus infections over the past year I'm not sure if this could be lingering and I'm unaware.

I am having a very hard time focusing at work, I feel as though I am sleepy, confused and dizzy all day.  There were no manuevers done to see if it was positional vertigo, hopefully once the blood results come back we can figure this out furthr.

Thanks.

You should probably not be at work. I don't see how you can even get to work in your condition. It is very dangerous to drive, even taking public transportation. You can fall down and hurt yourself.
That's a weird diagnosis your doctor gave you. Vertigo just means spinning dizziness. It usually indicates a disorder of the inner ear or its connections to the brain. This is lasting a long time and you should be seen by a specialist. Are you nauseous or throwing up?  I would make an appoint with an Otoneurologist if there is one in your hospital and you have a PPO and don't need a referrel or an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor. You may need an ENG or other tests such as an MRI. Do you have any other symptoms with your dizzyness? Such as numbness on one side of your face or body? double vision or headaches? If you develop any of these symptoms, head for the ER.

I wish you luck, you should stay home and try to take it easy, drink plenty of fluids if you are throwing up. If you are constantly throwing up and cannot maintain fluids, that is another reason to head to the ER.    I hope you get better soon.

I got my blood work back and everything was normal, the doctor said it must be viral and to wait it out until Monday if its not gone to call the doctor back....I dont know what to do, I feel there is more that needs to be done (MRI, CT Scan) possible see a ENT to check for inner ear infection.....they said there is no medication that will help me, to just deal with it....I'm so frustrated and still dizzy!! :-(

Hi

Are you still experiencing the vertigo? if the vertigo persists, it is best to have a consult done with an ENT or a neurologist. With a medical history of a sinus problem, you may want to have this checked once more. If the vertigo recurs, an immediate consult with a physician may be necessary. Do be careful. Avoid going out alone or operating any machines.Let someone at work know about your condition so they may help you when necessary.

Do keep us posted.

Thanks for everyone's help, I have scheduled an appt with an ENT for Wednesday, so I have 5 days for this to either get better or go away.  Hopefully the ENT can give me a little more information/help.
