Vestibular Migraine

Hi After neurological issues last year (suspected MS) due to balance and coordination issues, mri showed ischemic changes not relating to MS (thankfully) was put of plavix for blood thinning issues?? still suffering from dizziness alto not quite as severe, but this weekend developed what can only be described as the worst headache of my life, over right eye and temple, waking me in night from sleep, pressure/pain in eyeaball, intermittent swollen eyelid and redeye for one hour, pain was excruciating and lasted for four days.  Had emergency appt with neuro who has diagnosed Vestibular migraine, altho none of my symptoms really match the required for vestibular migraine. Have been prescribed pregablin and follow up 3 months.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

Hi,
Thank you for the update. If you want to consult another neurologist and you re not satisfied with the first, it is fine as long as you tell him about your complete history including you previous doctor. If you want to transfer to this new doctor, you should also inform your old doctor as part of good protocol. Usually, you records are transferred from your previous doctor to your new doctor. I hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.

Many thanks for your reply, I appreciate your time.

There have been further developments since I last posted.  I had an adverse reaction to the meds I was prescribed (pregablin) and had an appt with my G.P, whom from my symptoms and examination, diagnosed cluster headaches! Have been prescribed six day steroid dose and sumitriptan, which does seem to be helping with the excruciating pain but headache is now just a dull pain, also with dizziness.  Could the dizziness be caused by the medications?

I have also been sent an appt with a Neuro which was to discuss the original reoccurance of symptoms altho this is not my regular Dr, would it be considered bad protocol to accept this appt to discuss this new developement, as I feel that my original Neuro is not getting the correct diagnosis and is treating it all in a slightly relaxed attitude, my G.P was very surprised that this had not been picked up as cluster symptoms and I also have questions that need to be answered regarding treatment/reoccurance/causes etc.

I would appreciate any advice on this and thank you for your time, I apologise for the length of post.
Regards

Hi,
How are you? Cluster headaches may present as excruciating pain in vicinity of eye with associated tearing  of eye, nose congestion, and flushing of face. Pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent may help with the pain. However, worst headaches should also be evaluated further to rule out aneurysm. Take care and do keep us posted.
