What works best on stubborn headaches?

by tlcha, Jul 02, 2009 08:56AM
I get headaches. About 8 a month. The are the worst during my menstarl time, especially since getting into my 40's.
I wish I knew life without these nasty headaches. I take excedrin for my headaches. Now there is so much in the media about pain medicine hurting us, what works best for these nasty headaches. Mine are so resistant to stuff. A lot of time excedrin works if i get it right away. I do try not to take anything for the headache and that usually doesn't get me anywhere. The neurologist I saw wants to try birth control pills. My mom had breast cancer so I am not big on birth control pills. I asked him about bioidentical hormones and he said what's that ? Maybe he shouldn't suggest birth control pills if he doesn't know a lot about hormone therapy. Has anyone tried birth control pills for hormonal headaches?

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Menopause or premenopause can cause staggering headaches. Refractive errors that come with this age are the biggest culprit, hence consult an eye specialist once. Exercise, yoga, multivitamins with calcium and magnesium all help. Consult another specialist regarding hormone replacement. OCPs do help some but not all. Generally low estrogen is the culprit. You can try food rich in estrogen. The list is available at: http://dogtorj.net/id46.html
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
