Which migraine med's work best?

I have had migraine's ever since I was roughly 12 yrs old.  I have tried numerous medications over the years and none have ever worked past a week.  Has anyone else had this problem?  If you have, have you ever found a medication that works?  If you have, has any medical professional ever been able to sucessfully explain why the medication will only work for about a week and then stops working?  If you have the above problem have you ever tryed holistic approaches and have they worked?  Any feed back would be greatly welcomed.

Alongwith the medication you will benefit from lifetsyle changes. Avoid stress, exposure to strong lights, loud music, noise etc. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Regular breathing exercises and yoga also are recommended. Antianxiety medication like alprazolam also help. Adequate sleep is essential and so is adequate hydration. Goodluck.

Which medications have you tried? In patients with refractory migraine treatment with subcutaneous sumatriptan has been found to be very cost effective and usually achieves a complete pain relief. Parenteral steroids and NSAIDS, IM ketorolac have been used with success. Recently some studies have demonstrated beneficial effect of vagus nerve stimulation in patients with chronic migraines. Please discuss these treatment options with your doctor. Also if possible try to identify the trigger for your migraine. It can be a food product like MSG, artificial sweeteners, bananas, beans, aged cheese, chocolates, caffeine.
