Who has tried/heard of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation)?

I was wondering if anyone in the Migraines & Headaches Community has tried or heard of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) as a treatment for migraines?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a noninvasive method of exciting neurons in the brain using weak electrical currents produced by magnets.

It is not an approved migraine therapy in most countries. It is also a controversial therapy in some countries, although not others.

Usually TMS is used to treat severe depression, although off-label it has been used to treat migraines.

There are two methods of treatment, I believe... one where you go in for a series of sessions as a preventative method in order to reduce the frequency of migraines. Another method of treatment is to use it for acute therapy, in order to stop a migraine... hand-held home-use units are used for such purposes... and such units are rare and are not available in most countries.

So... yeah. Somewhat controversial among some groups of people. Not an approved treatment in a lot of countries. But... I am always interested in new treatment methods... not necessarily for myself, but just because I like to know what is out there.

So... has anyone been treated with TMS? What have you thought of it? Did you experience side-effects? Did you think that it improved your migraine situation? What did your treatment consist of... sessions at a clinic or a hand-held decide at home? Would you suggest such a therapy to others?
