basilar migraines

by hsimth, Feb 06, 2009 09:16AM
i have been suffering for migranines for about 10 years know but recently i have noticed that they are starting to get worse, on a normal migraine i would experience some colours in my eyes, tempory blindness, vomiting, hands going to sleep and also a realy bad headacke. but recently i've been getting migraines which i have trouble talking and even thinking straight and long after the migraine has gone and still have this realy bad headake and also i cant concentrate on my work etc. i have been prescibed most drugs which include, pizotifen, migraleve, propranalol which im curently on and co dynomol for the pain. i am 17 yrs of age so the doctor says my next treatment will be some sort of injection. i also have thease migraines quite often like three times a month i didnt mind them before because they used to come and then just go but know its becoming quite anoying and painful. my question is is there any other type of medication that i can take and what else can i do to prevent the migranes. btw my migranies usaly get triggerd by light so its quite hard to avoid. and also what type of migraine am i suffering from
thank you

Hi,

Yes there is a possibility that this is a basilar migraine. It can be confirmed only by a detailed medical history. The aura of basilar migraines is characterized by the presence of at least two symptoms of difficulty in speaking, vertigo, tinnitus, double vision, impaired hearing, tinnitus, ataxia, decreased level of consciousness and simultaneous bilateral sensations of burning, tingling and numbness.

I would suggest you to try magnesium supplements as they have been found to be quite useful in preventing migraine attacks.
