hi, my husband is 53 years old and has had severe headaches fo a good few weeks, went to doc and was given beta blockers, the headaches came with a sore kneck, he got up this morning he looked like he had had a stroke his speach was mixed up he had a heavy eye on left side and pins and needles. I took him to A+E they have now said it is a brainstem bleed. Is this a stroke? what happens now?

Hi,
How is your husband?  Brainstem hemorrhage may be secondary to vascular damage such as from hypertension leading to destruction of the brainstem. The next step will depend on the size and location of the hemorrhage. Imaging studies such as CT scan and evaluation by your attending doctors will be very helpful in the management plan. Surgery may also be indicated depending on the results of the tests and physical examiantion. Discuss the laboratory test results and management plan with your doctors to ease any worries. Take care and do keep us posted.
