child migrain duration

My son is 9 years old. 5 months back he suddenly developed symptoms of migrain ( headache, photosensitivity). We visited a peadiatrician who prescribed  SEBILIUM 5 mg once a day.Within 2 days headache stopped. But he continued the medicine for 1&half months. Later on we switched over to homeopathy expecting a complete cure without side effect. But after 3 months of homeopathy treatment ,once again he has got a migrain attack. It has been 5 days he has been sufferiring from the pain. Initially, for 3 days we continued consulting the homeopathic doctor. But, the pain still did not subside. His regular allopathy peadiatrician has now suggested to resume SEBILIUM 5 mg. Last night he took it. Still the pain is there.

I want to know whether migrain last for more than 5 days , if proper medicine is not taken or, it subsides automatically after 1-2 days even without taking any medicine.

i am 13 and i am also a migrane patient. when there is an attack it used to last for mor than 4 days. it was not seware all the time it was a light pain but i could feel it. my doc prescribed me sebilum its 8 months i am taking it. first of all you should try to stop your sons chocolate, coffe and coke because these three things basically have cafeen in them which triggers migrane attack. i myself used to have alot of these things but the day i stopped it i am fine now.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Normally a migraine attack lasts from a few hours to a maximum of 3 days where a person is said to have status migraine. Hence if the headaches persist for longer, you must investigate for other causes like refractive errors and other eye problems. This should be the first step. A CT scan or MRI of brain should also be done. Third is posture related headaches where a child who has a bad posture or uses computers a lot develops neck strain and subsequent headaches. Consult an eye specialist or a neurologist regarding this. It could be migraine but rule out other causes. Also get his serum electrolytes and a complete CBC done.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
