chronic daily headache syndrome

I have been suffering with these headaches for 15 years. I have been taking Topomax (topamax) and Amitriptyline for about 7-8 years, but over the last 3 months my headaches are getting more severe, also I feel sick and when I bend over I get a weird pressure feeling through my nose and head, which also makes me feel sick, also my nose is stuffy which can cause the headache to get worse. I have just started using a nasal spray to keep my nose clear. I have also lost any sense of smell or taste, but  I can tell the difference between sweet and sour tastes.  Can all these things be part of the same condition or is there more than one thing going on ? I spent years going back and forth to my GP and Neurology Hospital, I cant bear the thought of it starting all up again, but I am feeling really rough, added to that I lost my 14 year old daughter 21 months ago life is not really worth living at the moment.

I am very sorry for your loss but she is in a much better place. I have had these headaches for about 9years and they were always "misdiagnosed" as "sinus headaches". I finally went to an eye doctor an they said it was a swollen optic nerve behind my left eye. He sent me to a neurologist and she said it wasn't that but she wanted to check something in my brain. They then sent me for an MRI an came back perfect, I had headaches at least 3 to 4 days a week some lasting a few minutes but unbearable and then some were hours that were bad enough to stop me from doing work. I went back to the eye doctor and they gave me glasses and it helped some but the headaches are still very bad. He sent me back to that neurologist and told her he thought I had "A-typical" migraines but its nothing typical about them, she checked me and decided I have "Chronic Daily Migraine/Headache Syndrome". I have been prescribed Topamax and am patiently waiting to see if they help me. I think you may have sinus headaches and that would explain the pressure and the taste difference could be a side effect and may just me temporary. I really hope I helped you, if you have any advice that would help me I would appreciate it.

Hi,
How are you? I'm sorry to hear what you have been through for the past 21 months. Sinus headaches may indeed present with pain  that often increases in severity throughout day especially with bending over. This may be due to an  infection, polyps, or deviated septum that blocks the sinus ducts. Migraine and cluster headaches are often misdiagnosed as sinus in origin. Antibiotics and  decongestants may help provide relief. Migraine aura may present with nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound or changes in taste or smell. If the pain is increasing in severity, it is best that you check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
