Is it possible to be diagnosed as having cluster headaches through MRI scan and the doctor not even seeing you or hearing your syptoms? Thanks.

Hi,
Cluster headaches usually are a clinical diagnosis often confirmed using PET scans. The MRI is usually done to rule out any tumours or any other cause of the headaches. An MRI is usually normal in cases of cluster headache. Cluster headaches do not respond to the conventional OTC painkillers and usuually require a neurologist evaluation and respond to oxygen, narcotic pain relief medication, sumatriptan etc.

Hi,
The symtoms of cluster headache are very specific like intense headache, red eye, spontaneous remissions and it is not possible to diagnose just by a MRI scan.
