complicated migraines

hi my name is justine pett and i have iih or in medical terms bih intercranial pressure and i have a shunt fitted in my abdomen and since then i have had these migraines and my neuro is baffled as to why iam getting them could you help me as the painkillers are not working and i dont know where to go any more please help

Thanks for writing in.
It is important to make sure that the shunt is working fine and there is no under drainage or overdrainage of CSF as both these conditions can result in headaches.
In some cases patients have migraine or mixed tension headaches even when the shunt is working fine. The exact cause of these shunt headaches is not known.
You can opt for other migraine specific medications like Imitrex and Topamax since the pain killers are not working.
