head paid and loss of taste

two weeks ago I woke up and had absolutely no taste nor smell, but woke up with terribly sore, stuffed sinuses and one of my "usual" headaches (sinus? tension?). After two days, it began to return slowly--some things were recognizable, others not. For the most part, it has returned (week and a half) but is not as acute as it was. Maybe totally unrelated, I noticed pain when I touch the left side of my head. Area is located about 1 1/2 inch above my ear. Does not hurt unless touched, pressed. This has been present about a week. Will feel ache in back of jaw when I open my mouth wide.

Hi,
You need to get a complete ENT evaluation at the earliest. All your symptoms point towards a sinusitis. Try saline nasal drops and steam inhalation till then. You would be prescribed steroid nasal sprays, antihistaminics and a course of antibiotics if you are diagnosed with sinusitis. Take some OTC painkillers for the pain till then. Goodluck.

Hi,
The loss of taste and smell temporarily could be due to acute sinusitis. Steam inhalation works very well in acute sinusitis.
The pain at the back of your jaw  could possibly be TMJD or temporomandibular joint disorder. Please consult a physician. Meanwhile you can take OTC pain killers for pain.
