headache for past two days and nosebleed

My 13 year old has complained of severe headache in the past 2 days. Stayed home from school but went to school today and said headaches are gone but got a nose bleed today with a gush of blood. He has had nosebleeds in the past but not after severe headaches. I took him to urgent care the night he started complaining of his first headache. They gave him motrin and to check up with with pediatrician. Unfortunately, we are in the process of looking for a new pediatrician and won't have one until next month due to insurance guidelines on making new doc active. He started playing sports in school a month ago for the first time and also started taking add meds a month ago. These are just two things that have popped into my head that may or may not have something to do with his symptoms. He has a game tomorrow but his father doesn't want him to play because he does not want him to play until after the symtoms (symptoms) has passed. I'm worried it could be something serious.

How is your son? I agree with your husband that he should not yet play on the game tomorrow. Was there a history of trauma to his head or neck? What medications is he taking right now? Headaches can be due to primary headaches ( migraine, tension or cluster), secondary ( with underlying problems) eye problems and even side effects of certain medications. Nose bleeding on the other hand can also be attributed to trauma to the nose, warm weather and sensitivity of the blood vessels in the nose.  Although this is pretty common, if it recurs, it is best that you have this checked for proper evaluation.Take care and do keep us posted.
