headaches, eye pain and pressure

I was diagnosed with viral meningitis three months ago. Presented with severe headache/eye pain and loss of vision and hot/stiff neck.  Was also involved in auto accident day before ER presentation.
Was given prednisone for 2 1/2 months along with large doses of Skelaxin.  MRI was negative for any lesions, cancer, etc.  Still have episodes of headaches (although not as severe) along with eye pain and occasional vision disturbance  (although no loss of vision as before) and still feel increased pressure in my head both during headache and even when headache/eye pain not present.  Neuro doc just thinks my meninges are still inflamed and sometimes affected by MSG in processed foods.  Others have told me I have symptoms (although not diagnosed by any tests) of MS or optic neuritis, vasculitis, or pseudotumor cerebral.   What definitive tests can I have done to rule out any of these or get to bottom as to why I am still having neuro issues?  Could this be a "neck" disc issue that has not been diagnosed?

I had diagnosis of whiplash from auto accident which was after initial meningitis symptoms.   No spinal tests done and did not hit head during accidnet--just whiplash over the steering wheel of car. Still having neck pain, headaches --not as severe--and eye pain (although no LOSS of vision like before).  Been off all muscle relaxants and prednisone for 3 weeks now.  I will schedule complete opth exam to rule out any underlying eye problems and do you mean physical therapy might be warranted given whiplash diagnosis and still recurring problems?

Hi,

Your prior history of viral meningitis may be significant here.Your neurologist may have a point in saying that some residual inflammation may still be present.Complete resolution of  disease do vary from one person to another.

You have mentioned of a previous trauma? Was initial assessment done on your spine? Have you hit or injured your head at that time?You may ask your physician if neurologic rehabilitation therapy applies in your case.

A complete ophthalmologic examination may help rule out other underlying problems.
