headaches and paralysis

I have a 21 year old daughter, 2 weeks ago she experienced massive migrains, I took her to an after hours clinic, her temp was very high and frightening as her temp continued to rise, however the doctor said she needed to go to the hospital, as he said it could have been a number of things that was wrong but he couldn't be sure what it was, she is now in Rotorua Hospital undergoing a  series of test, that seem to come back normal apart from a severe liver infection, but however within 24 hours of her admission, she developed paralysis down her leftside and the migrains have got worse, we have not yet received any answers apart from we are waiting for an appointment to see a Neurologist in Waikato Hospital, in Hamilton. please is there any idea of what could be causing this, as all her scans, MRI, and Spinal Tap have all come back normal, except that they notice a scar on the left side of her brain, from an old school injury from when she was on camp, she was hit on the side of the head by a flying fox, please can you help me as it is very stressful not knowing what is happening to our girl, she is currently in the rehab unit in Rotorua Hospital.

Thankyou
Erica Leonard.

Hi,

There are a few possibilities like brain abscess, brain infection or stroke which can cause headache with paralysis and should be looked into if they have not been ruled out already. Though, it is difficult to give an opinion without a clinical exam and looking at the reports.
The next few days will be important and she should be observed closely for any worsening or improvement of symptoms. The earlier you can consult a neurologist the better it will be. Hope this helps!

Hi,

Yes Stroke has been ruled out, but yesterday there was talk about an ABSCESS on her brain and nothing has been said about brain infection, I will certainly look into this and ask, we are still waiting for Neurologist, but however there has been an urgent referral put through to see Neurologist, so we are still waiting.

Thankyou so much for your comment.
