headaches and prescribed drugs

I had a migraine new to me about a month ago went to a neurologist he prescribed meythpredislone 21 pack and after that was completed he prescribed neurotin gabapentin which I am very afraid of taken but I started taken 1 before I go to bed.  Why did the neurologist prescribed that if it was just for headaches?

While Gabapentin is used as anticonvulsant, it is also indicated for shingles or postherpetic neuralgiaand also for hyperhidrosis, headaches, diabetic neuropathy, hot flashes, and fibromyalgia.  Common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, somnolence,  fatigue, fluid retention, nausea and vomiting. Take as prescribed and check with your doctor if you have any side effects. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hi, Thank you for your question.  I would recommend that you consult another doctor at your earliest convenience to get your condition evaluated. Avoidance of triggering factors of migraine is the main stream of treatment. Apart from that, triptans, over the counter pain killers could be given as an acute treatment. Neurontin , B- blockers and gabapentin may be considered as a prophylactic treatment. Please consult a neurologist for a better insight after a thorough clinical examination in your case.
