imitrex rebound

ive had migranes (migraines) for 15 yrs and imitrex has been my only solace. it still works, but i am lately treating 18-20 headaches a month and am reasonably sure that i am experiencing a rebound situation. my pain doc is saying tough it out or drive 20 miles (with a migrane (migraine)) for nerve block injections. what is my best option here? i sure don't want to "tough it out"

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Migraine is treated by two kinds of medications, abortive and preventive. Imitrex is an abortive medication which only acts during acute attacks. Preventive medications like Topamax, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers are helpful in reducing the frequency of migraine attacks. Please discuss these options with your treating doctor. Also if you have been able to identify a trigger for your attacks make sure you avoid it any cost.
