inflamed meninges

hi,

I have had issues with headaches since Feb 2007. I have seen the neurologist many times who has said that my meninges are inflamed. I have taken a 6 day packet of steroids over the summer, but it still persists.

My body does not seem to be taking care of what the issue is naturally, and the neurologist has prescribed neurontin for the head pain but is not doing anything for the problem itself. What can I do to resolve this, or atleast know what is causing the inflammation? I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi,

Have you dicussed with your neurologist what could have caused the meninges to be inflamed?

Did you have any previous infections ( viral, bacterial, fungal)?

Any previous trauma or injury to head or neck?

Do keep us posted wih your answers.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. My neurologist says she is not sure of the inflammation. I have seen her 4 times since the summer, and really have not had any progress. I have suggested to my primary physician, an ear/nose/throat doctor and my neurologist what I think is causing this -- but they all just dismiss it, and I am not sure why.

So here it is. Two or three weeks after my headaches started last February I felt something fall from within my ear. It felt like something was attached to my ear canal and had fallen. I was able to just pluck it out. It was a good-sized, brownish substance. It was long with a curved back as if having been molded to the top of my ear canal. It looked similar to what I clean out of my dog's ears -- she has chronic ear problems (golden retriever).

The doctors said that maybe it was dark ear wax, another said maybe some blood pustule, and another just said "I have never heard of that"... and that was it. Nobody seems to think that this has any significance.

My headaches increase dramatically when I jog - so I have stopped jogging completely. I really do not know where else to go or what else I can do to try and resolve this.

Hi.

Was a complete ear examination done after you have mentioned that incident concerning your ear?

Any sinus problems?

I may not be of much help here but your case may need further evaluation before a diagnosis of benign headaches be given. Any scans indicated?

hi,

The  ear, nose,  throat doctor looked into my ears but I am not sure if it was a complete ear examination. I did have a cat scan done of my sinus area, and it looked ok. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posts. I do appreciate it.
