migraine much worse

migraine much worse

Hi I've been suffering from migraines for 2 years now since my periods have begun to slow down, i used to get them the week before my period was due, but over the past 6 months they have become more and more frequent. the migraines are coming on again after my period and this past month have almost been constant. I have never had any visual problems caused from my migraines until this morning which frightned the life out of me. My doctor has put me on a form of the mini pill to try and stop my periods hoping that my migraines and other symptoms may improve I have been taking the pill for 5 days now. This morning I woke with yet another migraine looming but when i opened my eyes the room looked like it was spinning, the best way to discribe it was like one of the old style tv's what used to have the picture rolling when it was broken, the whole room did that at sure a fast rate I could not seem to focus on anything still. I tried to close my eyes and then open them but it continued for about 15 mins, once it slowed down i took one of my migraine pills (maxalt wafers) and feel back to sleep, once I woke a couple of hours later apart from feeling exhausted my vision had improved and my migraine was back to a dull throb. Has anyone had any simular experiences or do you think it could be caused by the pill. Please help as it was very scary.

Sounds like you were having some form of vertigo (spins). It could be from the pill your doc prescribed - I would check with him/her to be sure. I have recently started taking the Maxalt Wafers when a migraine strikes, and they seem to be working for me. I'm almost 24, and have been suffering from migraines since I was 5 years old...so I consider myself a bit of a veteran. I for one have linked migraines to hormonal changes (probably similar to what your experiencing), stress, and sometimes pressure changes in the weather. My best advice to eliminate or reduce the amount of headaches/migraines you have is to see a homeopath. I have been seeing one for about 6 years now, and she has helped tremendously taking my several a month down to a few a year. Hope you feel better, and good luck!

Did you ever hear of a "complicated migraine"? Its just like a regular migraine with a few weird complications. I'm no expert but to me its sounds possible...check it out....what do you have to loose.Good luck.

Hi,

Your symptoms could very well be due to migraine. Migraine can cause visual symptoms and vertigo. The symptoms of migraine change over time in terms of nature, character and intensity.
Migraines can be triggered by hormonal changes so it is possible that the recent migraine attack that you had was triggered by mini pills.
I would suggest you to inform your treating doctor about this. In the meantime try taking magnesium supplements as they have been helpful in reducing the frequency of migraine attacks.

thank you for the advise, i am seeing my doctor on monday so i'll see what he says. I woke this morning with the migraine pain re appearing but no strange visual problems so hopefully it might have been a one off. Can I just ask about the maxhalt wafers which im taking cause ive heard some worrying concerns about them. ive been using them for 2 years now, at the start it was maybe 3 to 4 times a month during the run up to my period but now they are much worse and more frequent for example this month i have taken them for almost 3 weeks as they do stop the full blown pain but it returns the following day. Is it ok to take them that often? also i was concerned that some pain i put down to pre menopause my be due to the pills instead. For about 8 months now a week prior to my supposed period my skin becomes extremely sensitive to hot water it feels like im being scoulded all over even hot drinks too. during this time i can not take hot baths or wash in anything other than cool water, this has also got much worse recently. Im concerned because im on maximum medication for Britle Asthma which ive been taking now for 18 years, so my doctor has to be carefull what he can prescibe me.

Hi,

The usual dose of maxalt wafers is 10 mg but if it does not help it is ok to another but not before 2 hrs after the first one. The total dose of Maxalt wafer should not exceed 30 mg in a 24 hrs period.
Please follow the doctor’s prescription about it. The symptom of hot sensitive skin is most likely a premenopausal symptom.
Also have you tried magnesium supplements for migraine? They have been found to help reduce the frequency of migraine attacks.
Thanks
