migraines and Menstration

Do migraines have anything to do with PMS or the menstral cycle? I have had 3 migraines 3 days in a row, my neck and back are fine. Should I be worrying?

sooo true, every time I get my period I am guaranteed to have a minimum of a 2 day migraine.  My doctor gave me Imetrex (spelling that wrong I am sure) and so far it has worked great!

Hi,
How are you? Migraines can indeed be triggered or associated with hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy and even intake of oral contraceptive pills. This can be managed with rest, ice packs, and prescription medications. Overuse of over-the-counter pain medications may lead to rebound headaches. It is best that you see your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.

Thanks, I will try that. My doctor ended up prescribing me Robaxecet instead. We will see how it works out next time I get my period.

I am sorry that you get migraines with your period. Besides the migraines do you have any other pain with your period? If you do, THAT IS NOT NORMAL! Your migraines could be a symptom of endometriosis it was one of my symptoms. Also have you started any birth control, because that can also cause migraines. I cannot take any birth control.

I hope this helps,

I get migraines that coincide with my cycle. Usually once a month during pms. I also have really bad bad periods (lots of pain...cramps that start a week to a week and a half BEFORE I start) nausea etc. ) so a migraine is part of misery....lol. Oh and they usually last a full day to two days at the most.

I am sorry that you are suffering. PAINFUL PERIODS ARE NOT NORMAL! You might want to make sure that you do not have endometrosis. If you do find an endo specialist, an general ob/gyn does not know enough. To find one near you and learn more about endo go to the endo association website:
http://www.endometriosisassn.org/

You can contact them and they will help you find someone nearby.

I hope this helps,
achilles2

PS I also get migraines with my period and I know part of the reason is endometriosis.
