numbness on left side of face

Hello,
I've had migraines (no aura, just spaciness and pain) for several years now and do well on imitrex.  For the past few weeks I've experienced numbness on tongue and lips extending to the whole side of my face.  This facial numbness has been going on for about a week.  In the past couple of days my left eyelid is twitching and I sometimes have a blurry spot in my left eye.  I'm not in any pain but I am uncomfortable and kind of anxious.  My doctor ruled out stroke and lyme disease and says this is "complex migraine".  She seems pretty unconcerned and wants to follow up in 6 weeks.  Is it okay to take imitrex?  Would that be helpful?  Should I ask to be referred to a neurologist?  Thank you very much.

How are you? It is good that stroke and lyme disease were ruled out. Another differential I could think of is Bell's palsy. This is a partial or total weakness  of the facial nerve resulting to facial weakness. It develops suddenly or over a period of 48 hours and is associated with facial numbness, headache, change in taste and a crooked smile or slurred speech. The cause of Bell's palsy is unknown but it is often point to a viral infection. Have this evaluated further or be referred to a neurologist for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.

Thanks for responding, Rowena.  Bell's Palsy has been ruled out.  I wonder if Imitrex, which has worked for my migraine pain, would be okay to take for this paresthesia (without pain) which is apparently due to migraine?
