please help..

hello,

i was assaulted in may 2007 and have been getting moderate but constant head pains ever since.

waking up the day after the assault i was extremely dizzy and felt as if the room was spinning round. that feeling lasted around 6 weeks but has continued on a milder level ever since, and i now have impaired balance and an unsteady gait.

i've had head pains almost every day since the assault, they're not often a constant headache, more like pains whenever i move my head. i cant even run, or shake water off my hands without the vibrations hurting my head.

ive been to the doctors several times since but they just had a quick look and it didnt really seem like there was much they could do, and i think they assumed i was ok because i didnt have many common head injury symptoms immediately following the attack.

are these normal things to feel 8 months after an assault, i cant help thinking whether my head will ever feel normal again

Hi,

This is something that needs further evaluation primarily because no initial evaluation was done in your part right after the assault.A brain scan may be able to help.During the assault the brain may have suffered some concussion injuries when you have been repeatedly hit in the head.Concussion injuries are mild injuries to the brain usually secondary to trauma. This may not necessarily show some outward bruising in the face since the impact is felt within the brain. This may later manifest as mild chronic headaches, forgetfulness, feeling of easy fatigability.

In your case, the assault took place almost 8 months ago and no assessment has been done.I suggest you seek immediate consult with your primary physician or neurologist for a complete neurologic examination and work up.

Keep us posted ok? Good Luck!

thanks for your post, i didnt have any scans done at the time, i really regret not going to the hospital straight away, but it was about 3 am i was assaulted and i just wanted to lie down and sleep, i just thought i'd feel fine in a couple of days.

the assault took place in a carpark, this guy wanted my wallet and phone. i tried to run from him but he caught up to me, then i tried to defend myself but he hit me repeatedly until i was on the ground.

the head pains vary quite a bit, i often get them on the left side of my head (thats where i took most of the punches), sometimes these ones are really painful but they dont last as long. i have much longer lasting pains at the back of my head, it just feels like a constant tightness over a large area, theyre not sharp pains, just uncomfortable.

i get them at different times of the day, sometimes when i wake up or sometimes after ive been excercising, there doesnt really seem to be a pattern, but i have noticed that they come on more if ive been at the computer or watching tv a lot

Hi Randall,

How are you feeling?

Were any tests done right after the assault?

Radiographs and Scans done?Do you have the results?

Would you be able to elaborate on how the assault took place?

Please elaborate on your headaches. Location, its character, how severe it is , whether it occurs at a particular time of day,any associated signs and symptoms, what relieves and aggravates it.

Keep us posted on your answers.
