post spinal fluid leak

I developed a spinal fluid leak 3 days after decompression surgery. Three days after that I had fluid leaking out my wound. I had a large blood patch put on, my dura had thinned out and I had many leaks. Two weeks later I am much better and have no problem standing or sitting up, but if I bend at the waist so my head is horizontal, my head begins to pound with each heart beat. I have to lift my head for it to stop.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.

It is difficult to give an opinion without knowing your complete medical history.

Do you have a history of chiari malformation?
Blood patch normally relives headache caused by CSF leaks. There is a possibility that the leak is continuing and you may need a repeat blood patch.
Headache on bending over can also be due to high or low CSF pressure. This requires further evaluation. Please follow it up with your doctor.
Hope this helps!

Hi, was ur decomperssion surgery for chiari?...What material was used to replace the dura?
I have not had the surgery, but there r others on the chiari forum.

Also I did read alot about CSF leaks and I know they may need to repeat the bloodpatch several times.I had a CSF leak afteran epidural.....I had to lie flat for 5 days.

I would call the NS ASAP and let him know.CSF leaks need immediate attention.

Good luck
