should I be worried about this migraine

by jbug425, Aug 16, 2008 12:35PM
I get migraines and I'm on imitrex. My migraine differ most of the time. The most common ones I get are the one sided migraine no nausea and they come on without warning, I take my imitrex and it goes away. I've had a few that have come on and the pain radiates from the back of my head through out my head and the nausea is bad enough for me to vomit. This last time I took my medicine it didn't seem to work about a half hour after I took my medicine I ended up vomiting. What really concerns me is that my nose started to bleed out of both nostrils this scared me because I don't get nose bleeds. What do you think caused my nose to bleed? When the pain eventually subsided I was pretty much wiped out for the rest of the day.

Hello jbug425,

Usually the headache is due to rush of blood or congestion. The congestion gets relieved and manifests itself through the bleeding of the nose ..
You can try the following methods-Get a cloth to catch the blood
Sit or stand and tilt your head slightly forward.
Pinch the soft part of your nose, just below the bony part.  Keep the pressure on without stopping for about 10 minutes.
Use an ice pack on your nose .
If the bleeding stops, try to avoid activity for a few hours.  Don't blow your nose, or do any heavy lifting. You should consult a neurologist  if this continues and get the necessary tests done so that a correct diagnosis can be done
