My mother has been getting very bad pain in her eye and temple, she was prescribed Tegretol by her doctor, this has caused her to feel awful, she becomes very low once she has taken the tablet and cannot concentrate very well. She has now been told by the hospital that she must stop taking this medication as he condition is not what was first diagnosed!
She has been told that she is suffering from Migrane of the Retina, and is now taking another pain killer for this.
Is there a strategy that she can use to get off of the Tegretol as when she has lowered her dosage she feels terrible? The hospital want her off of Tegretol as soon as possible.
I would be very grateful of any advice as i feel quite helpless and want to support her the best i can .

Hi,
Tegretol should be tapered gradually and not stopped at once. Please ask your mother to follow the doctor's instruction. Also which pain killer is she taking now?
