Tenderness at the temple could be due to sinusitis, temporal artery inflammation, dental abscess causing referred pain, occipital artery being pressed between vertebrae, giant cell arteritis, or any pathology in eye. It could also be a migraine attack.
I think you should discuss this with your doctor. You would need some tests, Xrays, CT Scans etc. to rule out arteritis, inflammation of arteries, abscess and spondylitis of cervical vertebrae. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
