what are these strange visual disturbances

I usually suffer from migraines once or twice year. However since april 2008 I have had migraines with auras, flashing lights, numbness, confusion at least 2 to 3 a week. I also have a constant background headeache. A few weeks ago i started to get this wierd visual problem where faces look distorted. I also see shapes a lot of the time, diamonds, circles and dots on plain backgrounds. Is this part of migraine or is it something else. Its driving me insane and effecting all aspects of family life. Please help.

It is very likely that your ocular symptoms are a part of migraine attack. Migraine is characterized by aura. This aura is mostly visual in the form of zig zag lines, flashing lights, complex color pattern and shapes like triangles and dots and floaters and shimmering lights.
Are you taking any medication to prevent migraines?
