Anyone have success with toprimate

I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist. It's caused somewhat depression beacuse I had to give up what I loved. But I can deal with it . I just was the headaches gone. My neurologist has had me on 40 mg propranolol twice a day for 7 weeks now. It's cause rapid weight gain! I can't handle it! Although it's helps my migraines a lot!!! This past week I gained 12 pounds! And I eat less than 1,500 calories a day and almost no carbs and zero sugar. Just water. I can't exersice anymore like I used to since the neck pain and migrianes but I used to b in very good shape and do cross fit training. The weight gain is bothering me so much I'm in non stop tears about it! My dr has been ignoring my calls. Iv called three days in a row 4 voicemails, 5 times speaking to staff leaving messages asking just how to tapper off propranolol.it also was causing scary chest pain in my heart. It would last about 1 min long but would hurt so bad and stop my breathing almost for that time. I just want off it. My uc Davis dr who is going to b burning my nerves in my neck said he likes the idea of me on topiramate but not propranolol. Has anyone had any experience taking either drug? I'm hoping topiramate works for my migrianes as well as propranolol does! I hate to stop it but it's not worth the weight gain and chest pain. I'm worried about the vision side effect of topiramate tho. Sry so long. :/ if any one can help with how to tapper off the propranolol please share as well! I'm sure my dr will continue to ignore my calls and I don't know y. Thank U for ur time! -Alyssa :)

I am using an older drug Butalbital its inexpensive and works for me. The newer drugs have not worked as well and are very expensive. I experienced similar weight gain on Depakote. Worked awesome but simply could not tolerate the effects on the rest of my body.  Best of luck-

IT doesn't appear to have made a difference for my wife.  She used it for almost 10 years at 100mg max for 50% of that time.  She was tirated off of it in December 2014 and she had no change in symptoms.  She has had better success with a treatment called EEG Neurofeedback.  If you need to use a drug ask your Doctor if you can try a drug called Maxalt or similar drug (it is relatively costly though).  EEG Neurofeedback is non invasive and one can sometimes see changes within a few visits.  If you want to find out more, search on the term ISNR Neurofeedback.  This will show the professional organization to which most providers are members.  Best wishes.
