Migraine Headaches

Is there any role dietitians can play in  treatments of migraine?

My migraines are triggered by tartrazine, which is yellow dye.

It's in foods like ice cream, pickles and powder drink mixes.  It's also in cosmetic products like make-up and hand lotion, and some pharmaceuticals.

The wikipedia page is the best resource on tartrazine - good, clear, current info.

Good luck!

Thanks Sara for the suggestion, I'll sure put it the gluten free diet to test.

You don't need a dietitian.  You can try a gluten free diet or one with no dairy for 4 weeks to see if it helps your migraines.  Or keep a diary of what you eat when the migraines come, but since it takes 4 weeks of not having the particular food at all to be sure, the diary will only show radical food intolerances.

Best yet, but your insurance may not cover it, is to get blood testing to see what foods you may have sensitivity to.  The blood test to get is IgG food sensitivity testing.

Good luck.
