severe headache WHILE vomiting

i am never usually one to vomit, or even want to for that matter, but i woke up nauseous and it last for a couple horurs before i decide to try and clear out my stomach. while i was in fact vomiting, i got a sudden and severe headache in the back of my head, enough to back me seriously sit back. my first thought was of course "oh know, i've popped something"

i don't want to be over reacting over something brought on only by the vomiting, but then again i can't be too sure.

there seems to be a small pressure still in my head where the headache started. if anyone haves any ideas, i would greatly appriciate it. thank you.

I remember when I use to vomit,  I would would get horrible headaches, the pressure would be like my head was going to explode. Then when I cough, when I sneeze, This went on for years. If you have problems with  nausea, heartburn, and swallowing. Please ask for a MRI......Not a CTscan,  ask them to check for Chiari Malformation type 1. This is you health. Dont take no for a answer.

i've done everything you said, and thankfully all that was needed were some light fluids and rest. but, i do seem to sill be experiencing some actual chest pain. i wouldn't have paid too much into that pain, since i do have asthma and there has been times where i'd have a night of coughing or so and wake up with some pain. yet, in this case, when i woke up this morning, the chest pain seems to have gotten worse and is focused more near my right shoulder. it is even slightly painful to the touch. maybe it's nothing, i could be thinking too much into it because of my experience, but you did mention something about chest pains..

thank you again

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

I suggest that you seek immediate consult with your physician. This may be a case of exertional headache due to the vomiting.

Have you experienced previous episodes of vomiting lately?

Were there any bouts of headaches lately prior to this incident?

Right now, is there any severe head pain, any signs of weakness, numbness in other parts of the body?

Was there any previous history of a fever or rash ?

Is there any associated neck stiffness?

Get an immediate consult to have this headache assessed. A complete medical and neurological examination may be able to help.A baseline cranial CT scan may be indicated.

Do you have a previous history of Migraines or other headaches?  Sometimes I get Migraine with severe nausea (and yes, sometime wake up in the middle of the night this way).  More information from you would be helpful.

You may just be very dehydrated, which can cause a really bad headache (similar to a hang-over, though I hate to make that analogy).  Do you have any Gatorade or similar drinks with electrolytes in the house? Try sipping some a little at a time.  If you can hold it down it could help.

I've had non-migraine headaches just from vomiting due to a stomach virus or food poisoning.

I'm not a doctor (that is a real problem with this site), so I can't in good conscience diagnose you or prescribe treatment.  That said, if it were me, I would try to relax and get some sleep if possible (put a wastebasket next to your bed).  If you don't have Gatorade, just try ice water or ice chips.  Personally, I really wouldn't stress about having "popped" anything.  Call your doctor first thing in the morning (or if you are really worried, call now and talk to the on-call doctor - or see if you can get the direct number for your local ER and ask them - I don't know that I would call 911 unless you really want an ambulance showing up!  Again, I don't know where you live and what the 911 procedures there are.  Here they tend to over-react ridiculously - then charge a huge amount). It really sounds to me like a dehydration headache.  It hurts really bad, but will go away once your body stabilizes.  It can be really scary, especially if you are alone, but unless you have other symptoms like chest pain (real chest pain, not just anxiety) don't worry!!  Really, try to make yourself as comfortable as possible, have some liquid to sip by your bed and relax.

Please post back and let me know when you are ok, ok?
