unknown headache.

Last wednesday night at the gym ( i am a gymnast) i landed a dismount off the high bar. Prior to this i had no headache, no neck pain, nothing. Right as i landed and started to walk off the mat, i got a sudden horrible pain which felt to me like a bad migrane that was only located in the back left side of my head. The strange thing is, the landing was perfect, i didnt hit my head i landed on my feet and i didnt get whip-lashed. It is now almost 5 days later and the pain is still lingering. Feurocet( a migrane medicine) did not help the pain. In the pediatric e.r they perscribed me 2 teylonal mixed with codeine's which did not even touch the pain. Please tell me what is wrong or what i should do.

Hi,
It is good that the physical examination was normal, During warm up, stretching, and exercise, it is possible to pull almost any muscle in your body, including the muscles in the head and neck.  Over stretching of the muscle fibers can lead to tearing especially if the muscle is subjected to a sudden force. Rest and ice packs may help provide relief. Take care and do keep us posted.

I went to the e.r and they didnt take a cat scan or anything but they did an examination and diagnosed it a muscle strain which is strange because i went in with a headache,

Hi,
How are you? Are there other symptoms present?  Of there was no trauma, this could be benign exertional headache which is brought about by running, lifting, coughing, sneezing, or bending. Vascular headaches, usually involve abnormal function of the brain's blood vessels or vascular system. If it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Direct clinical examination is essential.  Ice packs and prescription medicines may help. Take care and do keep us posted.
