Good Appointment Today - Imitrex Injection

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let people know that I had a good appointment with my Neurologist today and I got a prescription for Imitrex Injection.

My neurologist is pretty amazing, he is my very favourite doctor as far as my headaches go. Anyway, I told him about the very severe migraines I sometimes get that are much more severe then the normal severe migraines, and how even if I take one or two of everything I have to treat migraines (zomig + naproxen + metoclopramide + gravol + hydromorphone + non-pharmaceutical treatments) that nothing works to even touch the pain and I needed something to treat these unusually (well, unusually for me) severe migraines because I was scared of what I might do to get out of pain if I was alone when one hit if all my medication didn't work and I wasn't thinking clearly enough to go to the hospital because of the pain, because that is really a serious fear of mine and I wouldn't want to ever hurt myself by accident when I was in pain. So, he prescribed me Imitrex Injection (Sumatriptan Injection). I dropped off the prescription at the pharmacy after the appointment and they told me I could pick it up tomorrow morning. He said he also prescribed Imitrex Injection for his cluster headache patients too.

I had a migraine tonight but it was a normal migraine and my zomig+naproxen+analgesic cream took care of it. So all in all today was a pretty good day. I don't feel as afraid anymore now that I at least have the Imitrex Injection to try next time I get one of those really scary migraines and even if it doesn't work I still have the hospital as my back up plan but it's just nice to know that I at least have something at home that might work now.

Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans? Thanks to anyone that answers who has any experience... or even anyone who has just been given a shot of Imitrex in the hospital before, how was that? Because I think getting Imitrex injections at the hospital is either the same thing or probably very similar to a prescription for Imitrex Injection, although I guess the difference is that by the time you get to the hospital it has already been a very long time so it might not work as well... but still, experiences with Imitrex injections at the hospital would be good to know about too. Thanks!! :)

I would think if you benefit by being able to avoid the ER that would certainly be wonderful.  Let us know how well you do with this.

I don't have personal experience with it.  My sister used the injections a few years ago and she said it is pretty easy.  Hope it goes well for you.  Practice on an orange LOL heheeha
Are you doing better?
