IUD Expulsion

I have had a merina iud for 1 month. Two days after it was inserted I started bleeding heavier. Then it was thought I got my period but over then next 10 days I continued bleeding and it did not stop. My GYN office was trying to assure me to hang tough as the bleeding would resolve over the next 3-6 months. Almost 3 plus weeks  later when I was still bleeding, having horrible cramps and a painful attempt at sex.  I was so frustrated I begged a doctor to take it out yesterday.  It turned out the IUD had fallen to the bottom of the endometrial canal and was protruding out when the doctor went to find the strings to pull it out.  The doctor indicated I could get another IUD but I have been looking online and it looks like the failure/expulsion rate is 30% when you have already had one expulsion.  Just wondering if anyone has had an expulsion followed by a successful IUD. Also I was wondering how long people bleed following the removal of an IUD as I am bleeding quite heavily.  Thanks.
