OB can now find strings 4 years after they were cut too short?

Hey guys! I had my Mirena inserted a little over 4 years ago. The strings were cut too short during insertion... Neither my doctor nor myself have ever been able to feel them before.  I've had two ultrasounds since to ensure the IUD is properly in place, and it always has been. I'm due to have it removed in May... I can tell it's wearing off because my hormones have been going crazy and I have started periods again (aside from prolonged bleeding after insertion, I have been period-free for about 3 years). During my last checkup, my new OB could see and feel the strings. She did not seem to think this was a big deal, but to me that indicates it has moved! I've been having terrible cramps and it's really started to concern me. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I be concerned? Any insight would be great, thanks!
