Unbearable side effects with Mirena IUD.

Unbearable side effects with Mirena IUD.

I've had Mirena for a little over 5 months and have been contemplating whether or not to get it taken out for awhile.
Sex is painful often, I'm in unbearable pain most of the day which causes me to taken tylenol, advil or ibuprofen everyday, any soft of exercise hurts, I feel bloated and look bloated 24/7 and I have gained 30 pounds since I have been on Mirena. Plus within the first 2 months I had it inserted, I already got a cyst on my left ovary and that was scary.
I do not want to deal with these side effects any longer but I am worried that if I got off it I will get pregnant or I won't be able to find a good birthcontrol that actually works. I'm just wondering if anyone has had Mirena removed and that it was good thing so I know if mine is worth removing.

I have had the mirena in for just over 4 years, although it has been great where it comes to my periods I had them for the first 6 months then pretty much not at all. but i have had major problems with weight gain and loss. I have just started having major problems with mood swings 4 years and 3 months later my emotions have been constantly all over the shop... i dont know wether to have another one put in now after having a major meltdown last week the doctor advised me that unfortunately i was suffering the side affects of the iud running out prematurely before its 5 year shelf life is meant to end. It causes chemical imbalances in many women. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am 37 w/one son 13 yrs old; my husband & I decided not to have any more kids. I had to get off of BCP because of risks. Anyway, I decided on Mirena July 2010, by August I was ready to take it out. My dr asked me to wait a little longer to see if side effects would taper off- weight gain, acne, painful intercourse, constantly bleeding (not heavy), cramping all the time, lower back pain, and horrible mood swings. I waited a few more months before my very patient and loving husband told me to get it out because he couldn't handle the side effects - mood swings!!!
I asked dr to remove it in November; however, he couldn't find the thread to pull (got it trimmed bc it poked my husband like a needle-YIKES!) I did an ultrasound and it was still there but thread had moved way up into cervix. He tried again but was causing me a lot of pain. I went back a week later with some lortab pain med and he was able to remove it. Long story short- i wish I had never put this thing inside me. It was the most miserable 4 months of my life.  AND a day after removal I spotted a little and then the floodgates opened. I was like a river. After soaking a tampon every 45 mins I had to call dr; he put me on BCP for 4 days to help the flow. I bled for a week, it stopped and got my reg period 30 days later. It is now a year since I had it removed and I am doing great! Husband got a "V" and all is good. It took a few months for body to recoup but way better now! I am so thankful I have my gyno and husband who supported me throughout ordeal. Good luck with yours, keep posting!!
