1st PPROM at 5 months and then 2nd miscarriage at 10 weeks

Hello everyone,
I have just signed up and was hoping to get support from others in a similar situation. I kind of have a long story, but I will try to make it brief. I hope I'm not confusing in my summary.

I am 41 without children. I got pregnant at 39 without a problem. My pregnancy was going fine. Then all of the sudden at my 21st week of pregnancy my water broke (PPROM) without any warning (no blood, cramping etc.) In fact I felt fine I was just shocked and wasn't even sure what it was. I admitted myself into the hospital. Most of my amniotic fluid had leaked out and the doctors told me there wasn't much of a chance. After about 6 days I went into labor and unfortunatley gave birth to a stillborn. After I had to have a D&C. Nobody knew the reason for what had happened just various theories (my fibroid, an infection, amniocentesis etc.) Some doctors told me to have the fibroid removed, but others said it wasn't the reason and not to. I decided not to have it removed (due to the long healing time needed before I could try to conceive again). About 4 months after PPROM happened I noticed my period was lighter and shorter and got worried.

I switched gynecologists and went to an infertility specialist. This doctor wouldn't do any tests and said to try again. We tried again and at 40 I got pregnant without a problem, but this time I miscarried at about 10 weeks and didn't know until my next check-up. Believe it or not this doctor said it was due to age and still wouldn't do any tests.

I changed doctors again. The doctor I saw said this time said she thought the reason for these past two miscarriages and lighter period could be due to a uterine infection. This time they did many tests and my hormone levels seemed fine. The biopsy said I had a uetrine infection (and a slight decfect in my luteal phase) like she said and now I'm on antiobiotics and other meds. I'm happy they found what they think is the reason, but these couple of months while I have been on this treatment my period has been like a day or two, even shorter than before so I'm even more alarmed now and keep thinking about menopause, but hoping it's only the meds. My doctor said not to worry until it repeats itself 3 times, but I feel like I'm regessing instead of progressing. Maybe this happens during a healing phase. I'm trying to be calm. If anyone has gone through PPROM or has any advice in reference to this. I would be greatly appreciative.

First, i am sorry that we have to go through this. I have pprom'ed with my daughter at 14 weeks, didn't find out until I was 17 weeks and delivered her stillborn at 20 weeks. She was such a fighter and hung in there. I was trying to carry her to term in hopes that the doctors were wrong or for a miracle. I am so pissed with the medical profession. They won't help before 24 weeks gestational age. Anyway during this time I found a wonderful group of women at www.kanalen.org  (if that's the wrong address search pprom in your webbrowser) anyway they have very good advise and support. They also have a checklist of questions to ask your doctor to get clear and concise answers from your doctor. They also provide support to PAP'ers ( pregnancy after (p)prom). Many of us including myself are terrified but want to try again. I myself got pregnant after losing my baby girl unfortunately that ended in a spontaneous miscarriage at 5 weeks. I also lost my first baby at 24 weeks a long time... my placenta ruptured and I went into preterm labor. My baby boy lived for an hour :(. Even with these losses I haven't given up on experiencing a pregnancy and bringing home my baby. Our family has 3 angels watching over us. I have my moments and cry at times but still look forward to the future. I am 36 and worry about getting older and my fertility. I have endometriosis and conceived my last 2 babies through iui. My RE is awesome. If you are not happy with your current doctor I recommend finding a different one that you're comfortable with. Your next pregnancies will be considered high risk. Chances are you'll be seeing a perinatologist too.
Hope we all have our babies sooner rather than later. God bless you.
