D&E at 19 weeks when is it ok to try again?

D&E at 19 weeks when is it ok to try again?

I had an elected D&E at 19 weeks after months of heavy bleeding, constant threats of miscarrage (miscarriage) (a suspected loss early on as we may have been having twins) the possibility of abnormalities due to prescription drugs taken (by my partner) during conception, all put together made our pregnancy extremely traumatic for us both and I in particular found it difficult mentally to take on.  Although I thought I was making the right decision at the time this was mainly due to the fact that if I didn't have the termination that day I would have to travel over 200 miles from my home town to get a termination from 19 weeks onwards and I didn't want to be in a strange place away from family to do this.  However I now really regret my decision as the anguish and upset before is nothing compared to the pain and loss now and miss my little boy so much.  My loving partner and I want to try again as soon as possible, but don't know when is a good time to start.  My D&E was on 3/9/09. I would be very grateful for any advice given.

I had a D&C done at 20 weeks. I actually had to have 2 surgeries as the first was not enough to complete what had to be removed. My partner and I waited one cycle - one period and tried the next month. We were successful on the first try and are now 11 weeks with a healthy little bean with a nice strong HB. Keep your heads up and never forget your little angel but just know that there will be a next little angel that you would have never met. I am already attached to this little person and have not forgotten the last in the least. Hugs to you.

I would suggest waiting till you make sure your doctor tells you that your body is completely healed, but don’t rush into another pregnancy because even if your body can take it, emotionally it will be really hard if God forbids it happens again. Make sure to stay healthy and just really prepare your body and spirit for a new baby. I lost my little angel at 17 weeks and I just recently stopped taking the birth control and will start trying again but now I can talk about it and go to the doctor and talk to them about it without bursting into tears. So emotionally I feel ready to try again and also my doctors have told me that to try again and most likely everything will go fine, if god wills it. I always used to say that Everything happens for a reason and I believed that, I still do but now it's so hard to understand so I try to just not dwell on that or try to figure out why it happened and whatever reason, I got to just accept it, cuz thinking about it won’t change anything. You know what I mean?  I hope your next pregnancy goes perfect. Best of luck to you and your husband.
Hopeful K
