Doubled HCG level 2 days after methotrexate injections

I'm now panicking with what has been going on in the last few weeks.

I had the last period on Nov 8, and we tried to conceived since Nov 15. I did not notice any difference in the body, and on Dec 8 - Dec 10, I had vaginal bleeding bleeding which i thought it was period. I had severe pain in abdominal area that I could not sit up, vomiting, almost fainted, could not eat any food, etc. After that, I had on-going left lower abdominal pain, and vaginal bleeding after intercourse.

On Dec 18, the pain was severe that I had to go to Emergency room. After many blood and urine tests, together with pelvic exam, abdominal and vaginal ultrasound and HCG at 2400, I was diagnosed with threatened miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. I returned on Dec 20 for a HCG test at 3000, and another ultrasound, the doctor said "I'm pretty sure that you are having a tubal pregnancy" and asked me to choose between methotrexate and surgery. We chose MTX and agreed to have the injections on the same day.

After that, I did not have any bleeding, cramping or any dizziness. On Dec 22, I returned for a HCG test, showing HCG 6000. I was so scared and emailed doctor. Next day, the nurse called and said i might have a normal pregnancy??? What??? I am soo sooooooooo confused and scared. The dr. order another test done today Dec 27.

It seems they are so unorganized. I came. No test ordered yet. Recep called and confirmed i need to do urine test only. And I just got the result... in qualitative only, saying "positive".... can't believe it.... Scared waiting for the 3 pm appointment :(

Hi, I am so sorry that u need to go through this. But I can't believe that after u had a shot u can have a normal pregnancy!!!??? Are u sure? On 12/2 I had my transfer with IVF (it was my second ivf). On 12/14 I had positive blood test! after 6 years of trying! I was so happy. A few days latter I got spotting which came more and more brown, and heavy. On my first u/s doctor didn't see any pregnanct sac in my uterus, he said he is thinking I have ectopic. My hcg went up all the time (165, 1147, 2200, 3800). My doc. send us to the hospitaql for more accurate u/s. One of them didn't show ectopic, the other one showed ectopic on my right side, the other doc. saied he see it on my left side. I was so confused. All of them told us to take a shot that this pregnancy anyway is not normal. I was so scarry to lose my tubes so I did a shot. I had heavy bleeding and strong pain for 2 days. After 2 days my hcg went up more and u/s showed that my pregnancy is bigger and they could see it clear in my tube on left side. (the right side was with fibroids). But my doc. told me that after shot sometimes hcg and pregnancy are growing and just after couple days it should go down, if not they should do sergery. On third day it came down I could see it in the toilet, the pain was so strong! Today I had blood test I hope my numbers down. But I can't get it how u can have pregnancy after this shot? The shot is working straight after u got it, it is killing all cells...And why is your doc. giving u a shot and after saying u can have a normal pregnancy? He didn't see ectopic, he wasn't sure??? I know it is hard sometimes to see ectopic in begining some doctors can't see it for sure but before they decide to give u a shot, they should be sure!!!! It is hard shot and killing all cells. I hope u will be ok. I think u should ask your doc. all questions, u should know what is going on in side u. Wish u the best!

first of all - i would find a new doctor asap. an ectopic pregnancy is nothing to wait around on and if you are nine weeks already they need to remove the baby right away. ectopic pregnancies are very dangerous, your tube can rupture causing you to lose whatever tube the baby is in. i have actually seen someone who died from this because she bled to death internally. also, it doesnt make sense that he says he 'thinks' you're having an ectopic pregnancy. you said you had ultrasounds right? so it's very simple, either the baby was in your uterus or somewhere else. there is no thinking about that and the doctor should know and answer instead of just "thinking" hopefully it's not an ectopic pregnancy. if it is, i would find a new doctor who knows what he/she is doing asap. good luck.
