HCG levels

My last period was 09/29. I tested positive on my first home test on 10/26. On 10/31 my Dr office confirmed I was pregnant. On 11/10 I started spotting brown, so the next day 11/11 I went to my doctors for a hcg blood test and an ultrasound. My hcg level was 1900 and my ultrasound measured at 5 weeks so all they could see is a sac. I have continued to spot going back and forth between pink and brown since Thursday and so I went back today 11/14 and my hcg level was only 2200. I don't go back for another ultrasound until Friday. The doctor didn't seem worried that my level did not double in 3 days and said I would have to wait until Friday to see if there is a heartbeat. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What is going on with me I am so worried....

i had the same thing.. i took a home test on 09.04.11 and got a positive result.. then i had my first appt on 10.03.11. they said i was measuring 5 weeks but according to my last period (08.07.11) and the hpt i should have been 8 weeks.. they scheduled me to come back on 10.20.11 at that appointment i was only showing 6 weeks i started having brown spotting and the doc still said not to worry.. my doctor never checked my hcg levels so i dont know about that part but i went back in on 10.31.11 and was told i only had a sac and no baby.. the sac was only measuring 6 weeks 3 days...i never got to see a heartbeat or anything.. i really hope your story doesnt end like mine and you have a healthy baby...

To add to what Scout said, I believe the rate of increase in hCG slows once it reaches 1200.

Heartbeat usually shows up between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 weeks but sometimes later.

The spotting is worrisome but many women spot and go on to have a good pregnancy. Your numbers and ultrasound are inconclusive so unfortunately you just have to wait and see...which is, I think, more stressful that knowing for sure...even if it was bad news...

I know you must be really worried.  Typically, the hCG will double every 48-72 hours, but not everyone is typical.  Yours might be slow to rise and will pick up by your next appt.  It's really good that it's going up. Oh, and I have read that once the levels get to a certain number (can't remember what that is)  that it can take 96 hours for them to double.

I've had a m/c when my hCG levels were low and not doubling and I've had 2 m/c's when I've had really high, really good hCG levels.  So it's been my experience that the numbers alone don't give you an accurate picture of what's going on or what may happen.  Hopefully your scan on Friday will go well.  I wish you loads of good luck.
