Heartbeat and barely rising hcg

I have a history of a miscarriage and an eptopic pregnancy while on clomid.  Had beautiful twin girls through IVF a year ago.  According to my LMP, I thought I was 7.5 weeks pregnant.  Early blood work showed normally rising hcg levels.  At my first ultrasound last Tuesday we saw a baby with a heartbeat.  Doctor said it looked younger than we thought, around 6.5 weeks, but developing normally.  Hcg that day was 41,000.  Progesterone was low so started supplements.  Two days later hcg was 42,000.  Doctor's nurse called and said that I would miscarry and to stop progesterone.  After a long three days I have had no cramps and no spotting.  Is miscarriage a given or is there still a chance that this could be a healthy pregnancy?  Thanks for your help!

Thank you everyone for your advice and support!  I'm going in on Thursday morning for a follow up ultrasound.  I didn't stop the progesterone, and no symptoms as of yet.  Fingers crossed!

I actually feel a bit frustrated with the medical advice.  It is fact that at a certain point HCG levels stop rising.  They sometimes even drop a bit.  Most Dr.'s are not putting nearly the emphasis on HCG levels that they used to.  It would seem to me that a follow up ultrasound would be far more telling then your u/s levels. I do not want to create false hope, and am obviously not a Dr., but typically when a healthy heartbeat is detected Dr.'s do not even bother with HCG levels.  The heartbeat (as long as it's in normal range) is the best indicator.  In all honesty, if this were me, I would not change anything until I had another ultrasound.  I wish you well.

Yeah as the above post said, you should get a repeat U/S and HCG levels checked again. Do you have a follow up appointment?? I wish you the best of luck!!!

I would ask for a repeat hcg and ultrasound and I would stay on the progesterone till you got one. Only until they confirm via blood levels and ultrasound would I give up.  I have seen it go both ways personally.(my own expreience)  Good luck to you.
